description
Understand how and why the ways your thinking mind
works creates a context for suffering and can impede effectual living. Dr
Lorraine Maher-Edwards draws upon her years of personal and professional
experience to provide you with the building blocks to develop freedom from your
thoughts. She takes a down to earth, humorous approach to the thinking common
traps we all fall in to. From a position of kindness and compassion, you will
learn to treat your thoughts with a healthy dose of scepticism, enabling you to
notice and let go of mental routines that don’t work for you. Dr Maher-Edwards
provides you with set of simple skills and techniques that you can apply in
your daily life, with bitesize audio recordings for ease of practice. The
one2one consultation allows for further hands on practice and application to
your own experience, all in the service of building a radically different way
of relating to your thoughts.
I am a
highly experienced practitioner psychologist who has over 16 years’ experience
in both NHS and private practice.
I have expertise
working with a wide range of the difficulties that come with the human
condition; such as performance anxiety, stress, procrastination, depression,
and lack of life direction. In addition, I have many years’ experience working
with clients with a range of physical health problems such as fatigue, pain and
long-term health conditions. I work integratively drawing upon many evidence-based psychological models
such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) , mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and Cognitive Behavior
Therapy (CBT). I feel hugely privileged to do the work I do; I enjoy working
collaboratively with clients across a wide spectrum of diversities, facing
social, psychological and physical challenges. I bring humour and humility to my
work to find creative, workable ways for you to move towards the life you want.
My strong academic background in the life sciences, coupled with my personal
passion for health and movement/exercise, contributes to a deep understanding
of the interaction between human physiology, evolutionary biology and
psychological mindset in maintaining physical and emotional health. I believe
passionately that our bodies and minds are intimately connected and I have a personal and professional commitment to
empowering others to look after their health and fulfill their potential.
I am a
skilled trainer, mentor, supervisor, and researcher and have published in
various peer reviewed journals.
