In psychology and mental health, resilience refers to your ability to bounce back from and even thrive in the face of adversity. Mental strength or resilience factors can provide a kind of mental immunity, protecting against adverse psychological outcomes such as mental health problems and promoting mental wellness. We know that levels of resilience are associated with a range of issues such as anxiety, stress, trauma and depression.
While our levels of resilience will be impacted by factors such as our genes, our upbringing, and our environment we do know that mental resilience training can improve resilience (see Joyce et al., 2017 for a metanalysis). All our courses enhance or build specific aspects of your resilience and are based on research evidence.
Unlike therapy here, at the WITHSTO, we help you increase your ability to develop sustainable coping skills and support your personal development before your problems become unmanageable.
See us as your mental resilience trainers. Training helps you work with challenges, frustration and unhelpful habits and create a more functional and practical way of handling them. We are an integrated virtual development centre. Each of our psychologists has been select through a rigorous process and based on their expertise in resilience. All team members have a doctorate in psychology. Some are trained practitioner psychologist, thus hold the accreditation to work clinically. Others are focused on academic, research and outreach training work and bring this unique expertise to the team. This blend makes us confident in saying that the quality of our offered online courses and life consultation is of premium standards.
Our offer is unique and different: Each online course with its life consultation is tailored to a specific topic. They are a combination of pre-recorded content for you to watch/listen to in your own time anywhere and everywhere and with your live private consultations that take place at your convenience. Check out our free taster sessions in each course for details.
Our courses help you to develop your resilience toolkit for use in your everyday life. Including theory which makes the science underlying the approaches transparent and approachable. You are offered experiential exercises, home practice and be given reflective tasks. All support skills development and are an integral part of the online course.
Here at withsto.com, we know that one size does not fit all and learning new ways of thinking and behaving can be tricky. The live sessions will provide you with an opportunity to explore how the ideas and skills apply to your experience, troubleshoot difficulties, and your psychologist will help you to practice the skills live.
The one to one sessions will provide you with an opportunity to discuss your experiences. You can book therapy sessions also. Your practitioner will work with you to understand the nature of your difficulties, what you want and need and draw upon their wealth of experience to help you to apply psychological models and ideas to your situation. The sessions will be collaborative and interactive and may involve live skills practices (experiential exercises), such as eyes closed activities involving visualisations or meditation practices.
All courses come, automatically, with a life-consultation. The online courses, with a blend of pre-recorded material and live sessions, may lend themselves to those who enjoy working independently, are often on the go, and want to fit their self-development into their lifestyle. Courses work well for those who have an idea of what they want to work on. A specific course is tailored to your particular needs.
You can also engage with life-consultations only. They allow for a reflective space for you to explore emotional issues with a trusted practitioner who can tailor their approach to what you need in each moment. Life-consultations work well if you are finding facing emotional stuff scary and if you want to train your new skills in a safe and kind environment, before applying it in your day-to-day life.
Confidentiality is key at WITHSTO. Whatever you talk about with your clinician is confidential. There are some specific exceptions to this rule. If we thought there was an imminent serious risk to you or someone else, a terrorist threat or summand by the court, we would be duty-bound to break confidentiality. However, we endeavour to discuss this with you first and have your involvement in this process as much as is possible.
Here at WITHSTO, we take confidentiality seriously and have written a detailed privacy policy that gives you a clear overview of how the data is collected. We are using the NHS's best-practise for data safety. Thus your data is anonymised, meaning that any information that identifies an individual client has been removed. A unique identifier is used which does not reveal your 'real world' identity. This identifier is stored safely, securely and separately. We have undergone and are frequently undergoing penetration testings. This ensures that the high performance of our security systems is consistent. Lastly, we do not share your data with any other 3rd party. Moreover, we are registered with the ICO, the UK’s independent authority that upholds the public's information rights.
Practitioner psychologists will have completed doctoral-level training of at least seven years. This involves developing a deep understanding of a range of psychological models or ways of working alongside scientific research skills to evaluate and conduct research. All the approaches we draw upon are evidence-based. This means that we only use methods or ways of working that are well established and effective for working with that area of difficulty. Our work is supervised by another experienced clinician and registered by the government body, the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Counsellors and coaches will tend to train in one model or way of working versus multiple models, and their training does not require study to a doctorate level.
For live sessions, we apply a 48-hour cancellation policy. This means that if you do not provide us with at least 48 hours’ notice for cancelling or rearranging a private one to one or group session, you will be charged the full session fee.
Some insurance policies cover one to one therapy sessions. If you have insurance coverage and wish to have your one to one session funded, let us advise you.
All our practitioners are accredited with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as practitioner psychologists. The HCPC is a government body that regulates UK Health and Care Professions. Practitioner psychologist is a protected title, meaning that, by law, to practise as such one must be registered with the HCPC, who ensures the quality and safety of practitioners in the UK.
There is growing evidence that developing your skills and abilities online is just as effective as face to face. Moreover, at withsto.com, you don’t miss out on the real human connection that is important for the process of resilience development and useful for good outcomes. This is why all our online courses offer face to face video conferencing in real-time.
Psychology is in the business of change. In other words, psychologists research what processes are at work when people are changing – or not changing. Your online course is based on research that allows us to understand what tools, training, and exercises help your sustainable change have a more resilient self.
We share the research with you. And the underlying psychological processes so that you are training what and how to become more resilient and why we are using - what we are using. Why is this important? Because transparency builds strong relationships and effective change. Check out our Blogs for details of the different psychological approaches you will encounter during your resilience training.

The courses are tailored to a specific topic. Generally, they include a combination of pre-recorded content for you to watch/listen to in your own time, reflective exercises, reading material, and MP3s. Depending on which course you have chosen, they also include live private consultations or live group sessions. Our courses are aimed at helping you to develop your resilience toolkit for use in your everyday life; therefore, courses will tend to include some theory or topic (which will help you to understand the theory and science underlying the approaches you are learning), some experiential exercises (aimed at skills development and so will often be audio guides and will be for you to practice at home), and some home reflection tasks (which will include material to read, or some written task). Here at WITHSTO, we know that you are individual; hence one size does not fit all, and learning new ways of thinking and behaving can be tricky. The live sessions will provide you with an opportunity to explore how the ideas and skills apply to your experience, troubleshoot difficulties, and your psychologist will help you to practice the skills live.
The one to one sessions will provide you with an opportunity to discuss your experiences. Your therapist will work with you to understand the nature of your difficulties, what you want and need and draw upon their wealth of experience to help you to apply psychological models and ideas to your own situation. The sessions will be collaborative and interactive and may involve live skills practices (experiential exercises), such as eyes closed exercises involving visualisations, or meditation practices.
This will depend on several factors. With a blend of pre-recorded material and live sessions, the courses may lend themselves to those who work well independently or those with limited time who can fit the pre-recorded content into their schedule. Courses will also work well for those who have an idea of what they want to work on, in that a specific course may speak to your needs. Private consultations allow for a reflective space for you to explore emotional issues with a trusted therapist who can tailor their approach to what you need in each moment. Private sessions also work well for those who find applying ideas in practice challenging, perhaps due to lack of motivation or finding facing emotional stuff scary. Individual sessions allow you to build a strong therapeutic bond, and for some, this human connection can be crucial for change to occur. If you are unsure which approach you want, our individualised assessment allows an opportunity to meet with one of our practitioners, who can help you identify areas to work and advise on what course might best suit your needs.
Yes, whatever you talk about with your clinician is confidential. There are some specific exceptions to this rule. If we thought there was an imminent serious risk to you or someone else we would be duty bound to let the appropriate authorities know, such as your GP. We would always endeavour to discuss this with you first and have your involvement in this process as much as is possible.
